Summary of the EIS Document
The EIS document highlights the evaluation and analysis process. Typical chapters include:
- Summary - outlines major findings of the EIS process
- Purpose and Need - discusses project objectives and need for the improvements
- Alternatives Considered - outlines screening and selection process and gives detailed description of alternatives
- Affected Environment, Environmental Consequences, and Mitigation - highlights existing social, environmental, and economic climate of the project area and discloses potential effects that project alternatives have on these resources
- Transportation Systems - examines potential impacts of project alternatives on existing highway and transit systems and suggests mitigation measures for impacts identified
- Community Outreach and Agency Coordination - outlines various measures taken to ensure community and agency involvement
- References - identifies sources of information used to develop the EIS
- List of Preparers - lists names, titles, and contributions of each person who helped write the document
- List of Recipients - lists number of Federal Agencies and Regional Offices in addition to people involved in the project who will receive the document
- Appendices - included to provide information that may not be easily included in the document
