FAQs
1. Why are the transit and highway projects formerly combined in the I-70 East Corridor Environmental Impact Study moving forward separately? The separation, which occurred in Spring 2006, allows both projects to move forward more efficiently by better focusing on the issues unique to each. Both studies incorporate the data and public input gathered so far, and each will continue to encourage public input using the community outreach techniques developed in the I-70 East Corridor EIS. 2. What will be studied? The East Corridor EIS will study transit between downtown Denver and Denver International Airport. The I-70 East EIS will study highway improvements between I-25 and Tower Road. 3. What about the Central Corridor/Downing Extension? Is that still being studied? The Central Corridor/Downing Street Extension is no longer part of the East Corridor NEPA process. However, it will continue as an Environmental Evaluation document. Public meetings will be held during the design phase, and the study will be posted on this website. 4. When will decisions be made? The East Corridor EIS plans to release a DEIS in 2009. A Final Environmental Impact Statement is scheduled for 2009, followed by a Record of Decision issued by the Federal Transit Administration. The I-70 East EIS plans to release a DEIS in 2008. 5. When is my next chance to provide input on the preferred alternative? Public hearings are planned following the public release of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. You will receive a postcard from the project team to notify you about the public hearing if you join our Mailing List. 6. Will I have to attend different meetings if I’m interested in both projects? Yes, because meetings for each study will now focus exclusively on either transit or highway alternatives, which will allow you to provide more detailed input. 7. How can I stay in contact with both projects? Contact information for each project is as follows: I-70 East EIS, the highway study, can be reached at 303-294-9300. East Corridor EIS, the transit study, will be based in the RTD-FasTracks office 1560 Broadway, Suite 700 Denver 80202, and can be reached at 720-475-7081.
